Introduction
WinstonNet, Inc. ("WinstonNet") is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to bridging the digital divide in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. By volunteering with WinstonNet, you agree to the following Terms and Conditions. Please read them carefully before starting your volunteer work.

  1. Volunteer Status

Volunteers are not considered employees of WinstonNet and will not receive compensation, benefits, or any form of payment.
Volunteer activities are entirely voluntary, and the relationship can be terminated by either party at any time, for any reason.

  1. Code of Conduct

Volunteers are expected to conduct themselves in a professional, respectful, and lawful manner at all times.
Volunteers should respect the mission of WinstonNet to bridge the digital divide and should strive to uphold its values of inclusion, respect for diversity, and commitment to the community.
Volunteers must avoid any behavior that could harm the reputation of WinstonNet or its stakeholders.

  1. Confidentiality

Volunteers may have access to sensitive or confidential information regarding WinstonNet, its operations, and those it serves.
Volunteers agree to keep all such information confidential and not to disclose or use it for personal or unauthorized purposes.

  1. Safety and Well-being

WinstonNet is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all volunteers.
Volunteers agree to adhere to all safety policies and procedures in place and report any unsafe conditions to WinstonNet staff.
Volunteers must not engage in activities that could endanger themselves or others.

  1. Training and Supervision

Volunteers agree to complete any required training before engaging in activities.
Volunteers will follow the guidance of WinstonNet staff or designated supervisors and ask for assistance if uncertain about tasks or procedures.

  1. Criminal Background Checks and Working with Minors

Volunteers who may work with or have access to minors or vulnerable populations may be required to undergo a criminal background check.
WinstonNet has a zero-tolerance policy for any individual with a history of criminal offenses involving violence, child abuse, sexual misconduct, or any other serious crime against minors.
Volunteers with a history of such offenses will not be allowed to participate in any activities involving minors or vulnerable populations.
If self-disclosure or a background check reveals any criminal activity, WinstonNet reserves the right to review the circumstances and determine whether the individual is eligible to volunteer, even in non-minor related activities.
Volunteers are required to report any changes to their criminal record immediately during their service period.

  1. Use of Equipment and Resources

Volunteers may be provided with access to WinstonNet’s technology, tools, and other resources during their service.
These resources are to be used responsibly and exclusively for volunteer-related purposes.
Volunteers agree to return any borrowed equipment or materials at the end of their service.

  1. Non-discrimination and Harassment

WinstonNet is committed to maintaining a welcoming environment free from discrimination, harassment, or bullying.
Volunteers must not engage in any discriminatory or harassing behavior based on race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, or any other protected status.
Any incidents of harassment or discrimination must be reported immediately to WinstonNet management.

  1. Media and Public Representation

Volunteers should not speak to the media or represent WinstonNet in any official capacity without prior approval.
Any materials or media (photos, videos, etc.) created during volunteer service must be approved by WinstonNet before public distribution.

  1. Intellectual Property

Any intellectual property created by volunteers during the course of their work with WinstonNet (such as documents, designs, software, etc.) will be the property of WinstonNet unless otherwise agreed upon in writing.

  1. Termination of Volunteer Service

WinstonNet reserves the right to terminate a volunteer's relationship at any time, for any reason, including but not limited to violations of these Terms and Conditions.
Upon termination, volunteers are required to return any WinstonNet property and cease all volunteer activities.

  1. Indemnification

Volunteers agree to indemnify and hold harmless WinstonNet, its employees, directors, and agents from any claims, damages, liabilities, or expenses arising from their volunteer activities.

  1. Liability Waiver

Volunteers agree that WinstonNet is not liable for any injuries, accidents, or damages incurred while performing volunteer activities, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct by WinstonNet staff.

  1. Changes to Terms and Conditions

WinstonNet reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time. Volunteers will be notified of any changes, and continued service after such notice constitutes agreement to the revised terms.
